Anyone can create a free HerdIndex account and begin building livestock listings. However, listings are not published automatically. Every listing is reviewed by the HerdIndex team, and only approved listings from breeders with an active HerdIndex Breeder Package will be published on the website.

How do I get listed on HerdIndex?

Getting your cattle listed is easy! Simply contact us at info@herdindex.ca to get started. We'll answer your questions, help you choose the HerdIndex Breeder Package that's right for your operation, and guide you through the process from start to finish.

How much does it cost to advertise on HerdIndex?

Is HerdIndex free to use?

Absolutely! Anyone can search and browse listings for free.

Creating a free HerdIndex account allows you to:

• Save your favourite listings
• Share listings with friends, family, or business partners
• Easily return to animals you've viewed
• Access new features as they become available

There is no cost to create a buyer account.

Who can advertise on HerdIndex?

HerdIndex welcomes registered breeders, seedstock producers, and commercial livestock operations looking to market quality cattle to buyers across Canada.

What is HerdIndex?

HerdIndex is Canada's livestock search platform, designed to help buyers quickly discover cattle from breeders across the country. Search by breed, genetics, EPDs, location, and more—all in one convenient place.

How do I search on HerdIndex?

Feel free to use the search bar on the home page is you want to search by Breeder, Bull Name, Location.  However, by leaving the search bar blank and clicking search, a new array of filters will show up!  First, choose your breed and then the Performance, & EPD filters relevant to the breed with be available to narrow your search for your next herd sire! 

How do I contact a breeder?

Each listing includes the breeder's preferred contact information, allowing buyers to connect directly with the seller to ask questions, discuss the animals, and arrange a purchase.

Can I purchase animals directly through HerdIndex?

No. HerdIndex does not buy, sell, or broker livestock. We simply connect buyers with breeders. All negotiations, payments, transportation, and sale agreements are handled directly between the buyer and breeder.

Can I update my listing?

Yes. Breeders can update their listings, photos, descriptions, and animal information at any time to keep their advertisements current.

How accurate is the information on HerdIndex?

All listing information is provided directly by the breeder. While HerdIndex encourages accurate and up-to-date information, we cannot guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or availability of any listing. Buyers are encouraged to verify all information before making a purchase.

Are the EPDs and performance data guaranteed?

No. EPDs, pedigrees, and performance information are supplied by the breeder or the applicable breed association. Buyers should independently verify any information that is important to their purchasing decision.

Should I inspect an animal before purchasing?

Yes. Buyers are encouraged to view animals in person whenever possible or request additional photos, videos, registration papers, health records, and any other relevant information before completing a purchase.

Does HerdIndex guarantee animals or sellers?

No. HerdIndex is an advertising and search platform only. We do not inspect livestock or guarantee the health, quality, pedigree, fertility, performance, availability, or suitability of any animal advertised on the platform.

What if there is a dispute between a buyer and breeder?

Any disputes regarding livestock sales, payments, transportation, representations, or the condition of an animal must be resolved directly between the buyer and the breeder. HerdIndex is not a party to these transactions.

How do I report inaccurate information or a listing concern?

If you believe a listing contains inaccurate information or violates our Terms of Use, please contact us at info@herdindex.ca. We will review the concern and take appropriate action where necessary.
